Mortal Kombat 4 Zip

Hey team, it's a pleasure to be posting here with all of you. I've run MAME perfectly fine in the past, with older style games particularly from the SNES era. After reading the title, a lot of you may know where this thread is going. I've recently re-sparked my interest in MAME, as I am going to build a MAME cabinet to go all the way with this hobby. To start, I wanted to make sure I had all the MAME software down. So I downloaded MAME, several versions actually, along with the MK4 ROM. However, I'm unable to make it populate under my 'Available Games' tab. And, I was hoping you guys would be able to shed some light on this monster.
Just some quick info about my gear:Mortal kombat 4 (usa).zip para n64

Dell Desktop Tower - Pentium processor (This won't be the computer I'm installing in the cabinet, just the one I use personally and the one I'm using to try to get these ROM's to work).
MAME version .169 (I actually downloaded several versions trying to get this to work, so I've got a few on my computer, but I feel like this one is the latest)(europe).zip
Windows 8 (Haven't upgraded to 8.1) yet.
I got my ROM from Emuparadise, and just to knock down a few of the things I already tried:
-Changed the file name of the ROM

Mortal Kombat 2 Zip Files

-Verified my ROM directory (I know it's the right one, because I also downloaded the Mortal Kombat 2 ROM and placed it in the same directory as 4. MK2 will show in MAME, but not MK4)
- I also downloaded clrmamepro, but I'm not exactly sure how to use it haha

The last thing I tried was to try to play the ROM in MAME Plus! This didn't correct the problem either. However, in the 'All Games' tab, an info message appears for each game, and under the MK4 info page it says 'THIS GAME DOESN'T WORK.' 'You won't be able to make it work correctly. Don't bother.' 'The game lacks sound.'
But, I feel like this isn't true, because I've seen people play it before.

Yeah guys, I'm at a loss. Please forgive a first-time poster for being a help-vampire. Any assistance would be great.

Mortal Kombat 4 Prison Theme

Mortal Kombat 4 is an old dos game, published in 1998 by Midway Games. Main genre of this old game is action. We gave this game stunning rating of 69 and you can download it for free right here. The most famous fighting game series got in 1998 its fourth continuation: Mortal Kombat 4. I must say, that the fourth part is not one of those games from the game series, which you would remember as a great one. While the game has huge potential: it was the first Mortal Kombat, which took place in a 3D environment, respectively, which were suppose to entirely take place in a 3D environment, but the game and fights was still very dependant on the 2D view. The game has traditionally a good amount of fighters you can choose from, namely there are 15 classic fighters, plus two more hidden characters. The game adds some new game modes such as Team Battle (2 for 2, you can have 2 players play on one computer), endurance battle, training, or classic Mortal Kombat tournament. Although I consider, for example, the second Mortal Kombat better than this fourth sequel, the game is still worth a try and it will entertain you with typical brutal battles.
